Our collaboration began as Element was going from stealth mode into launching their brand and first product—a crucial time for their company. Up to this point, genome sequencing was expensive and slow, and their newly-formed company was taking on a near-monopoly, so stakes were high.
As a company full of scientists (even their head of marketing is a scientist), going through a branding process for the first time was an exciting opportunity to understand its power.
Articulating their purpose was the first step. With direct access to their founders Molly He, Michael Previte, and Matthew Kellinger, we gave them the tools and language to describe their vision and convey who they are. We also named their product, defined their voice, and developed a cohesive visual identity system with room to grow.
The successful positioning and launch of their affordable, fast tabletop genome sequencer set the course for other research products moving forward.
