The Human Side of Science

Throughout the years, Gilead and Tolleson have collaborated on a series of interactive projects. The defining experience of each engagement has always relied on the art of storytelling. For Gilead, it’s a story about the perseverance of the human spirit as told through the eyes of patients fighting for a better quality of life and scientists pursuing new treatments.

For Gilead’s Annual Review, we brought together Gilead patients and their personal confidants to reflect candidly on their collective experience living with their diseases.

The confidants helped create a trusting environment that allowed patients to open up in ways that were deeply personal and intimate. In weaving their stories together, we created a portrait of two people, not defined by disease, but connected by their experience.

The Annual Review website aimed to show the human side of Gilead’s work, connecting one scientist’s passion with another patient’s opportunity to live on their own terms.

The portraits are an enduring testament to the patients, who against all odds, were able to tell their story, in their words.
