It's Marble.
I still can't believe these are sculpted entirely out of marble. Who would think to replicate as mundane a material as styrofoam with such a coveted stone? This is the work of Italian sculptor Fabio Viale, who sculpts everything from paper airplanes and car tires to a fully functional motor boat out of 100% marble.

The Varini Perspective
Swiss artist Felice Varini has been painting perspective-localized geometry on spaces and architecture since the late '70s. Completed last summer, his latest installation "Cercle et suite d’éclats" in Vercorin, Switzerland is very impressive in scale and perspective. You can see some nice panoramic shots here.

Paper Cut
The Museum of Art and Design's newest show, "Slash: Paper Under the Knife", focuses on contemporary artists' use of paper – cutting, tearing, burning, or shredding to delight and surprise. In all, the show features 50 artists and a dozen installations made just for the show, including Andreas Kocks's Paperwork #701G, shown here.

Glugbot
Jim Darling and Eugene Good spent 4 days gathering the detritus of an old coal refinery and shaping it into an oversized drunken robot, or Glugbot. "Our goal for this piece was to create an idea that would look like it lives in this space."

WaterCar Python
Probably a better investment these day's is sinking $2Gs into a Python. A serious amphibious recreation vehicle, this thing hauls on water and can peel out when you ascend to a dry road. A perfect Spring Break accessory (see pics).

Soviet Land Signs
Crop circles vs. Russian forest signs? Discovered via Google maps, these giant Soviet signs have been cut into forests with propaganda such as "100 Years to Lenin", "Glory of Communist Party", or "USSR 50 Years". Whether they were meant for extraterrestrial life, propaganda, advertisement, or land art is unknown. What is known is that some of these date back to 1967. (via Strange Harvest)

Face Plant Galore
Darn it. I forgot about the annual Cooper's Hill Cheese Roll. Missed my opportunity for some serious face planting for Gloucester cheese. Apparently this tradition dates back some 200 years. Why do people do it? Who knows. But rest assured, those crazy Brits keep running at that rolling cheese's beck and call. Here's some great photos from Boston.com's "The Big Picture."

The Piano Speaks!
A player piano for the new millennium. This piano speaks!! Austrian composer Peter Ablinger digitized a recording of a child speaking and then programmed a mechanical piano to replicate the sounds. The culmination of all the complex timbres sounding the voice of a child is both amazing and spooky. (via Neatorama)

Kup Kup Land
I just framed some wonderful art for my home by Kup Kup Land, the moniker of Kima Casas Bo. Based out of Athens, Greece, Kima creates charming felt objects, illustrations, softies, brooches, and even miniature pastries (my favorite). Her luscious color palette is especially sweet. One-of-a-kind pieces are available from her etsy shop.

Foreshortened Space
Ron van der Ende creates wall mounted bas-reliefs constructed from found wood. The original color and texture of the wood is used to form a sometimes photorealistic mosaic. The realism is further enhanced by the perspective built into the relief.
