Random Screen
Berlin media artist Aram Bartholl creates very intriguing interactions between digital space and reality. My favorite example is "Random Screen". Makes you want to rush out to the hardware and liquor store to buidl your own doesn't it?

Perpetual Motion Finally Real
Who would have thought the answers to our fossil fuel dependencies would be found with cats and jelly and white carpet. I had no idea!
A short animation by Kimberly Miner explains how.

Blanca Gomez Moleskin Project
Here's a great flickr set of Blanca Gomez's Moleskin Project 2006. She's currently one of the featured designers on Moo.com offering a great set of holiday cards.
From moo.com: "Blanca Gomez began drawing as a child in Madrid. Although forced to grow up - luckily, not too much - and get a proper job, she kept drawing by night. Her self-professed 'dedication to small things' shines through here as a keen eye for detail."

Poignant Sprawl
Josh Keyes' paintings and drawings of altered landscapes reveal both the intricacy of the earth as a system and the complexity of our response to the natural world, while retaining a sense of intimacy.

The BQE
I went to see Sufjan Steven's commissioned symphonic and cinematic exploration of the BQE at BAM. It was unlike anything I've seen before - a full orchestra, three visually connected projected videos, disco balls and six hoola hoopers all performing together to create an exploration of NYC's infamous Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Sadly, I don't think the video is online but WNYC is streaming part of the music if you're interested.

Skydiving From Space
You may or may not have seen the Dayvan Cowboy video by Boards of Canada that came out last year. If you haven't, check it out—it's great.
I had to look into where that amazing footage of the guy sky diving came from. Have you heard the name Joe Kittinger? Didn't think so. Back in 1960, Project Excelsior was investigating the use of a parachute for escape from a space capsule (at the time no one knew whether humans could survive a jump from the edge of space). Kittinger headed 30km straight up into the sky using a pressurized, high-altitude balloon, making him nearly the first man in space.
Then he jumped.

Kids Messing With Trains
It's unbelievable how boys will always manage to get into trouble—and in a big way when it comes to trains. You must see this to believe it.

Happy Birthday Helvetica
Today is a very important day. Helvetica turns 50!
Oh, it's also the birthday for someone special in the office which required celebrating with a special Hawaiian BBQ feast from L&L.
