Mark Jenkins creates amazing sculptures out of ordinary clear packing tape. If you do a search on the web for "tape sculpture" you'll find a wealth of material out there.

If you feel so inspired, here's a step-by-step guide showing you the steps to making your own sculptures.

Trashy Portraits
Jason Mecier creates amazingly elaborate portraits from celebrity cast-off items. He's showing at 111 Minna Gallery here in San Francisco through July 28th.

"Closets are overflowing with it. Dumps are filled to the brim with it. The Goodwill trucks can’t keep up with it. The useless junk that fills our lives. Ever wondered what’s in Parker Posey’s give-a-way box? Farah Fawcett’s garage? Elvira’s broom closet? Well artist, Jason Mecier is about to show you."

70s Summertime Surf Tunes
The Japanese label, Em Records, who unearths and reissues obscure 70s artists such as Idris Ackamoor and The Android Sisters, has issued "Em Under Water Series" which consists of five CDs from little-know 70s Australian "surf music" bands who scored entire surf films from the era.

Two of the first releases are from Farm who scored "The Innermost Limits Of Pure Fun" and Perer & Finch Martin who scored "Drouyn", a 1974 film about pro surfer Peter Drouyn. (Just hit return again after clicking the link and you should be able to play the excerpt.)

You can find the discs and more Em records stuff in stock here at Aquarius Records.

Party Monster!!!
It's Molly's birthday today and it reminded me that nothing says "I love you" more than this birthday greeting created by the folks at Milky Elephant.

Escape Pod
Have you ever sat inside headphones? Plug your iPod in and tune out. The sonic chair provides a unique audio experience, allowing you to sit at the very centre of a sound system. Integrated satellite speakers are precisely adapted to your ears. The speakers are encased in a carefully crafted body that creates sufficient volume for powerful bass tones, while several body-focused sound generators, in the seat and the backrest, further augment the lower frequencies – creating the feeling of a live performance.

The active and passive sound insulation creates an acoustic island. Background noises will not disrupt the enjoyment of music or an audio book in the sonic chair, and what the listener chooses to hear is hardly audible beyond the chair.

It comes in pink too.

Coolest Kid on the Playground
So you dropped $600 on a iPhone so you could have the cool toy of the summer. So how do you keep your kids away from your toys? Make them their own! DaddyTypes.com has posted grandma friendly instructions on how to create a playground compatible knitted iPhone for your kids to flash around their sandbox friends.

Not sure how you knit a new Audi R8 though?

The Art of Slumming It
Terence Koh's artwork thumbs its nose at the established art world while hanging in its hallowed halls. I found him on a virtual gallery crawl through the Saatchi galleries, and was delighted with his list of media: speakers, iPod, song with artist singing in his own private language, lollipops, horse hair, vegetable matter and, believe it or not, diamond dust.

I think 'Crackhead' is my favorite, just because it reminds me so much of sixth grade camp.
